Katalene (Kat) Masella grew up in Hartford, Connecticut, raised by her single mother. Living in a low-income housing complex, she discovered art as a way to inspire and uplift her community.
Masella later earned a graduate certificate in Visual Arts from Harvard University and a certificate in Painting from the Art Students League of New York. She is currently completing her master's degree. Her cherished artist mentors include Frank O'Cain, who studied with DeKooning and Rauschenberg under Vaclav Vytlacil, and Fran O’Neil from the NY Studio School ‘Marathon’ courses. Both encouraged her to pursue her unique vision and her ‘wild’ ways of creating art.
In pursuit of social impact through art, Masella founded Art for World Relief, an initiative that creates and donates artwork in support of brain health and cancer organizations.
Kat's work has received multiple awards and recognitions. She is the recipient of the 2026 Goetemann Residency Distinguished Artist Teacher Award (recent recipients include artists Joan Snyder and Amber Scoons). Honeywell International and Bang & Olufsen represent her work in their corporate collections.
Her professional art practice supports an ample commercial studio in Boston's SoWa Art + Design district, as well as a studio in Gloucester, Massachusetts.
